History of WCAR

History

Before WCAR came into being there was another Whitman Co Real Estate Board. It was founded in 1925 with 9 members. It was based in Colfax. By 1946 they were down to 7 members but they lost 3 members that year bringing the number of members to less than five, less than that required by the National Association of REALTORS®.

In April 1926 the members were President WS Talbot, Secretary JJ Overman, DC Downen, EW Downen, George La Rue, M Poore, G Shirrod, Leonard Strobel, and SM Watson.

On June 4, 1963 the charter of the Whitman County Board of REALTORS® was approved by the National Association of REALTORS®. The board was founded and applied for NAR membership of Feb 25, 1963 with 9 members. Ivan Sayles was President and Thoman A Baener was Secretary. In 1990, while J Craig Lester was President and Cindy Kent was Secretary, the Whitman County Board changed its name to the Whitman County Association of REALTORS® Inc.

In May 1964 the members were President Bernard Redman, Secretary Lois Redman, Charles Arland, Thomas Baenen, LE Barton, Bert Belle, SH Butler, BT Henry, HJ Riggs, Harry Sanders, Ivan Sayles, GA Street, and William Wall.

In 2017 we have 74 REALTORS® and 34 Affiliates for a total of 108 members.
