During the COVID-19 crisis, REALTORS® across the country are stepping up to support their neighbors. Whitman County Association of REALTORS® (WCAR) recently targeted one of the most immediate concerns—increased food insecurity—with a $3,000 donation to local food banks whose contributions go directly to serving our community.
Groups at risk of food insecurity during this crisis include the elderly, people with pre-existing health conditions, the unemployed, and students who rely on schools for free and reduced-priced meals. Washington Governor Jay Inslee’s office estimates that 1.6 million people turned to state food banks for supplies last week—double the usual number. Similar numbers are reflected across the country.
A $2,000 donation was made to Council on Aging & Human Services (COA Human Services), a private non-profit organization committed to enhancing lives and supporting communities with transportation and nutrition services. It is the lead agency responsible for local distribution of commodities and food — distributing to more than 11 pantries and surrounding towns including Endicott, Teako, Oaksdale, Roasalia, Albion, Palouse and Garfield. To find out more about supporting or volunteering for COA Human Services, please call (509) 397-4305 or visit their website at www.coacolfax.org.
Additionally, a $1,000 donation was made to the Pullman Child Welfare program, whose mission is to meet the needs of less fortunate families in the Pullman School District through monetary donations as well as donations of food, new and used clothing, household items and more — including emergency medical care. To find out more about supporting or volunteering for the Pullman Child Welfare program, please call (509) 338-0801 or visit their website at pullmanchildwelfare.org.
WCAR encourages others to contribute — even a small donation goes a long way for our community.
