Food Drive to Benefit Elementary School Pantry Program

September 13, 2017 By Kat Downes

It’s September and time for our annual Food Drive!

This year we will support the new Elementary School Pantry Program. Linhda Sagen talked with our membership on September 5th about how this new program got started and what it is doing to improve the lives of children in our community and helping children succeed in school.

The program is available to all elementary age students, all they have to do is sign up. Then the school provides snacks for the child and their siblings for the weekend.

For this food drive we will accept money or food (or both!). Make checks out to the “Elementary School Pantry Program”.

The food item list is:

o   Granola Bars (High Protein, High Fiber and Low Sugar Preferred)

o   Fresh Fruits and/or Fruit Cups (i.e. Applesauce)

o   String Cheese/Yogurt

o   Nuts & Seeds

o   Crackers

They are trying to keep this to low sugar and high protein. Each child will go home with a snack for Saturday and another for Sunday for  themselves and their younger siblings. They hope to take this program to the middle school soon.

The teachers also have access to the supplies for those instances when a child missed breakfast. Let’s help our community children succeed in school through this program!

More information will be provided by the Member Services Committee. The Food Drive will finalize at the Oct 3rd lunch & learn. Let’s see if we can beat last year’s Food Drive!

October update: This was run as a competition between the Realtors and Affiliates to see who could bring in the most to benefit the school snack program. The Realtors won! Realtors brought in $680 and the Affiliates brought in $190 for a total of $870 plus some boxes and bags of food. Thank you all for your donations, the school snack program really appreciated your efforts. :o)
